This time we hosted in a new venue: MetreSquared, which in so many ways encompasses the atmosphere of Lotus Nova. Cozy and quirky—part mossy meadow, part lived-in art studio—the space came alive and morphed through the night.
It all began with the signature Open Jam, the air thick with possibility as musicians locked into each other’s grooves, building soundscapes that existed only for that moment. Our Open Mic carried that energy forward, giving three artists from our community a space to share their raw and honest expressions.
Then, a sonic shift. All the way from Brazil, TIETÊ, a 7-piece multi-instrumentalist band, took the stage as our Live Act, washing the room in exuberant rhythms and grooves that transported us to the live music scene of São Paulo.
The extravaganza wasn’t just heard; it was seen. The Jamwalk Catwalk yet again transpired to be the climax of the night. GKB Couture’s dystopian, post-apocalyptic designs—sculpted from recycled tractor tubes—stood in sharp contrast to the soft, flowing crochet pieces of Flo Che, designed to move like second skin on the bodies of dancers.
Adding to the multi-sensory experience, the space was wrapped in the Visual Artist’s creations. The walls vibrated with the maximalist, electric works of TANYA GALIA, while Patrick Williams III brought punk energy and capitalist iconography into a distressed, street-art dreamscape.
This time we wanted to create more of a dialogue between artist and audience, so we conducted a short interview segment with the Visual Artists and the Fashion Designers. Exchange of knowledge and inspiration is a fundamental value of Lotus Nova.
And of course, we played. With the prompts from the audience, Tino Gee delivered a touching freestyle, and Eliza created a movement piece as a spider that was trying to find its way (aren’t we all?). Our improvised segment allows for the joy of completely unexpected creations, giving members of our tribe that don’t sing or play instruments and can’t take part in the jam, an opportunity to share in that experience.
Our Apricot Jam was a beautiful moment in time, a collision of worlds, a night we won’t soon forget.
